BESSEMER, Ala. (WIAT) -- In Alabama, some things just naturally go together, like a summertime holiday and barbecue.

While many people enjoyed a day off from work on Labor Day, others in the food service industry were hard at work.

Bob Sykes Bar-B-Q in Bessemer said Labor Day, the Fourth of July and Memorial Day are big holidays for the restaurant. General manager Jason Jewell said on those days, the restaurant will have extended hours.

"Usually on the holidays, it’s busy all day. We hope so. We’re counting on it," Jewell said. "Drive-thru line in the road, we hope, but we can’t block the intersection. We’ve got to have some police if we get too busy. We’ll get them to come help us. We count on it being every table full pretty much all day.”
