PHOENIX — For the first time in his seven-year Major League Baseball career, Merrill Kelly warmed up on the first base side of the diamond and threw a bullpen in right field. He will take in a game at Chase Field in the visiting dugout as well.
Kelly returned to Phoenix on Monday night with the Texas Rangers, after his hometown Diamondbacks traded him just before the trade deadline in July.
Kelly said he had competing emotions upon learning he had been dealt.
"A bit of a mix," he said. "Obviously some sadness, some disappointment in the fact we set out this year thinking that we were going to have the season we thought we were going to have and it turned out to not be. Obviously, I wanted to be here my whole career. I wanted to win with those guys over there. We built a lot of good cult
