ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. —

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office said a man and woman were on the sailboat near mile marker 14 when it hit the bridge. Both went into the water. The woman was rescued, but the man has not been found.

Deputies say the search stopped at dark Sunday but resumed at sunrise, with Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) agents leading the effort, assisted by the U.S. Coast Guard and sheriff’s deputies.

The United Cajun Navy also joined the mission.

Terrell said rough conditions made it hard to see beyond about 50 yards on the water.

Local boaters told WWL Louisiana that conditions on the lake Monday were dangerous.
