A suspect has been taken into custody after several law enforcement agencies, including Allegheny County police SWAT units, responded to a standoff in McDonald, Washington County, late Monday night.

SWAT units were alerted to reports just before 10 p.m. of a man firing shots at police in the 300 block of Fairmont Street in Allegheny County.

Responding officers encountered a male barricaded inside a residence.

Preliminary information suggests police were called to the residence just after 7:30 p.m. for a welfare check because of an intoxicated man in distress. When officers arrived at the residence, they encountered a man outside shouting obscenities.

The man retreated into the home, but reemerged with a firearm, firing multiple rounds, and continued to fire shots throughout the duratio
