MADISON (WKOW) -- The Dane County Sheriff's Office confirms that rescue crews are searching for a missing boater in Lake Mendota.

Lieutenant Brian Hayes says around 5:40 p.m. Monday, first responders received a 911 call from people who were on a pontoon boat. The people on the boat could not locate a member of their party who had jumped off the boat.

Units from the Madison Fire Department, Madison Police Department, Dane County Sheriff's Office and UW Lifesaving Station all responded. Search and rescue efforts went until about 8 p.m. Monday. Teams will continue the search on Tuesday.

Hayes says the missing boater was not wearing a life jacket.
