An action-packed opening weekend of college football in the books. As always, fans throughout the country are either at the pinnacle of elation or in the depths of despair. OK, there are probably some that are in between those extremes, but we’re not concerned with them here. This space is all about overreactions, and boy howdy were there a lot of things worthy of hyperbole this week.

For the uninitiated, here’s how this works. The following statements are all conclusions some have drawn from the weekend’s results. Some of them might prove to be accurate, while others might truly be overreactions gleaned from putting too much weight on the first game of the season. We’ll try and sort the reasonable from the over-the-top.
