ATLANTA — After taking part in a postgame trophy presentation on the Mercedes-Benz Stadium field, South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer walked over to his father and gave him a hug.

After Shane walked away, his father, legendary former Virginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer, brushed a tear from his eye.

Sunday was indeed an emotional day for the Beamer family as No. 13 South Carolina beat Virginia Tech 24-11 in an Aflac Kickoff Game.

“It was real emotional,” Frank said in an interview after the game. “But I really enjoyed watching him.”

“Certainly really emotional for me,” Shane said in his postgame press conference. “I’d be lying to you if I told you this one wasn’t extra special.”

Shane was a Virginia Tech player and assistant coach under his father.
