Employees at the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) plant in Merseyside have been instructed to remain at home and not report for work as the car manufacturing behemoth grapples with a significant IT crisis. An internal message, viewed by the ECHO, reveals that the multinational firm has been "impacted by a cyber incident", prompting an immediate system shutdown.

The issue was reported on Monday, 1st September, with production staff informing the ECHO that they received an email at 4:30am instructing them not to come to work. Another shift was dismissed from the Halewood plant.

The shutdown persisted into today, and a morning email from Halewood management confirmed it would extend into tomorrow as well. The company is addressing a "global IT system issue."
