BUCHANAN COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) - A driver was pulled over Monday for traveling over 100 miles per hour (MPH) on Highway 20.

According to a Facebook post from the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office, an officer stopped the vehicle after tracking the driver going 103 MPH. The driver was trying to get home following Labor Day weekend.

This time of year is one of the deadliest on Iowa roadways, according to the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB). In the final four weeks of summer last year, 45 people died, with 30% of those deaths being caused by impaired driving.

Data provided by the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) reveals that as of Friday, there have been 26 fewer traffic deaths in Iowa compared to 2024. Data from the holiday weekend is not yet available, but so far, crash deaths
