(NewsNation) — Charges have been filed in connection with the shooting of an 11-year-old boy who was killed after a prank in which he rang the doorbell of a home and ran away.

The 42-year-old suspect, whose name has not yet been released, was arrested Tuesday morning and has been charged with murder, according to court records obtained by NewsNation.

The suspect was expected in court Tuesday morning.

The Houston Police Department said the boy had been ringing doorbells as a prank around 10:55 p.m. local time Saturday. Commonly referred to as “ding dong ditching,” the prank involves fleeing before someone inside the home opens the door.

The boy, who has not yet been identified, was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead Sunday, police said.
