Driver dead after rolling vehicle near U.S. 41, cops say

NEWTON COUNTY — A driver is dead after his vehicle rolled east of U.S. 41 on County Road 1000 South, according to the county sheriff's department.

Police have not yet identified the driver.

Officers responded around 2:30 p.m. Monday to the area in question and learned a male driver of a 2003 Volkswagen was westbound on the county road when his vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons, according to the department. The vehicle rolled and the driver, who was alone at the time, was ejected.

"The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash," police said.
