(FOX 5/KUSI) — A magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck Northern Baja California late at night on Monday, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quake was registered at 11:41 p.m. and was first measured as magnitude 4.7 before being brought down to magnitude 4.2.

The earthquake's epicenter was about 6 miles deep and a few miles northeast of the community of Lázaro Cárdenas, about 165 miles southeast of San Diego and 75 miles southeast of Ensenada.

Mexico's Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education at Ensenada registered multiple aftershocks in the same region in the hours after, with some registering a magnitude of 3.0 or higher.

In the hours after the quake, several responses from as far away as San Diego County reported having felt the quake.
