LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — State Sen. Gary Stubblefield, who has served in the Arkansas Legislature for over a decade, died on Sept. 2, according to Arkansas Senate information officer John Reed. The senator was 74.

Reed did not confirm how Stubblefield died, but his daughter said in a Facebook post on Aug. 26 that he was in the hospital undergoing multiple surgeries. She described his condition as "very critical."

Stubblefield represented Arkansas Senate District 26, which includes parts of Franklin, Johnson, Logan, and Sebastian counties, since 2013. Before he was elected to the Senate, he served a term in the state's House of Representatives.
