Two men have been charged in connection with a collision that left a seven-year-old boy fighting for life. The boy remains critically ill in the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle almost a fortnight after the incident on Westminster Road in Middlesbrough.

Emergency services were called to the scene following reports of a crash involving a motorbike shortly before 3pm on Thursday, August 21. Photographs taken at the time show a large number of police vehicles in the street and a cordon erected.

Witnesses say the police helicopter and drones could be seen flying above the area in the immediate aftermath. Scenes of crime officers and collision investigators were also spotted in the street. The Great North Air Ambulance is understood to have landed in nearby Albert Park .
