A police car which was flipped over onto its side in a horror crash on the East Lancashire Road was on an emergency response at the time, it has been confirmed.

The vehicle, which was responding to an incident, became involved in a collision with another vehicle on the A580 near to Worsley at around 7.30pm on Monday (September 1).

The road was closed off following the major smash as police, paramedics and fire crews raced to the scene of the incident on the eastbound carriageway.

One police car had been flipped onto its side in the incident. Fire crews had to extract one man from a car with two rushed to hospital for precautionary checks, the fire service said.
