Anna Wintour has chosen Chloe Malle, the daughter of award-winning actor Candice Bergen, as her successor at Vogue magazine.
Wintour tapped Malle – who edits Vogue's website and cohosts its "The Run-Through" podcast – to lead the outlet as head of editorial content after helming the world's most famous fashion periodical for almost 37 years. Wintour had announced in June she would be stepping down from her editor-in-chief role.
"I know that some people who were interested in this job were sort of daunted by the idea of Anna being down the hall, I'm very happy she's down the hall with her Clarice Cliff pottery," Malle told The New York Times in a report published Sept. 2.
Malle first joined Vogue in 2011 as an editor in the features department and was promoted later to a contributing editing role.
“Vogue has already shaped who I am, now I’m excited at the prospect of shaping Vogue,” Malle said in the announcement.
As Vogue enters a new era, here's what to know about its new editor's famous mom, who coincidentally also played a Vogue editor on "Sex and the City."
Who is Candice Bergen?
Bergen, 79, is an Emmy-award winning and Oscar-nominated actor, who shot to fame as television news reporter "Murphy Brown" in the series of the same name. The role and performance earned her five Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards.
Bergen also garnered an Oscar nod for 1979's "Starting Over" and has been part of many hit films including "Miss Congeniality," "Sweet Home Alabama", "Bride Wars" and the Book Club series in which she shares the screen with Jane Fonda, Mary Steenburgen, and Diane Keaton.
Bergen played a Vogue editor on 'SATC'
Bergen also appeared in three episodes of "Sex and the City" and one episode in the sequel series "And Just Like That" as Enid Frick, Carrie Bradshaw's editor at Vogue. She also appeared as Frick in a cameo for the 2008 movie of the hit TV series.
What's even more interesting is that the 2002 "SATC" episode with Bergen was filmed at Vogue’s former headquarters at 4 Times Square, according to the magazine.
Candice Bergen's family
Chloe is Bergen's only child, who she shares with director Louis Malle. Bergen and Louis Malle were married from 1980 until his death from lymphoma in 1995, USA TODAY previously reported.
Bergen later married real estate developer and philanthropist Marshall Rose in 2000. The couple was married for more than 20 years before Rose died in Feb. 2025 following a battle with Parkinson's disease. He was 88.

Bergen said she once went on a date with Trump
Bergen, who was a student at the University of Pennsylvania at the same time as President Donald Trump, told Stephen Colbert in 2018 she once went on a date with the businessman when they were both teens.
“I was very young,” Bergen had said on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. “I was about 18 and − Trump and I are about the same age, or as he would point out, I’m about six months older. And it was when I was at Penn.”
“I was home very early,” she recalled.
Bergen also noted Trump came to the date wearing a burgundy outfit complete with matching shoes and car.
“I might have invented this because it’s so perfect, but I think he was wearing a burgundy suit with a burgundy vest and a burgundy patent leather boots and was in a burgundy limousine,” she said. “And so it was kind of a symphony of burgundy.”
In an earlier interview with People, Bergen had referred to the date as "really a dud," adding she "was home by 9:00."
