ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit took to social media to defend a comment he made during the broadcast of TCU’s blowout victory over North Carolina Monday night.

Herbstreit appeared to be laughing as the network cut to commercial with UNC trailing TCU 41-14 at the start of the fourth quarter. The video was clipped and began to circulate on the social media platform X.

Numerous accounts, including Barstool Sports, quoted Herbstreit as saying “they’re bad” in reference to UNC’s struggles.

Herbstreit quoted two of the tweets with an explanation of his words and the context they were involved in.

“Must be a slow night..not sure why this is so confusing,” Herbstreit wrote. “I said “YOU’RE bad” to my spotter Deron for something funny he said when we were just coming back on air.”
