LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A long-time Arkansas public servant died on Tuesday.

Arkansas Senator Gary Stubblefield died after an illness, according to a social media post from a family member. The senator was 74 years old.

Stubblefield represented Arkansas Senate District 26, which includes parts of Franklin, Johnson, Logan and Sebastian Counties. He was first elected in 2012.

He was chair of the Senate City, County and Local Affairs Committee. He was also a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, the Joint Energy Committee, the Senate Efficiency Committee, the Joint Budget Committee and the Legislature Council.

He was a Republican and sponsored legislation to protect the unborn and the elderly.
