Fraud is one of this reporter's favourite crimes because the methods are so varied and interesting, the characters so different, and because, admittedly, there will always be fascination with people on Robin Hood missions to steal from the rich and give to, err, themselves.
Stewart Mills, an ex-Tube driver, fleeced £123,000 from a handful of Barclays banks around London by simply pretending he was a real customer using identities given to him, he says, by a much larger criminal gang.
Mills, a previous offender, didn't even bother to disguise himself and, he claims, only took a small cut of the earnings. Mills got three years and 1 month , but the punchline to his sentence was hearing he only has 65p to his name.
