SAULT STE. MARIE — Students across the Eastern Upper Peninsula woke up early on Tuesday, Sept. 2 to return to class for the 2025-26 school year.

At Sault Area Schools, students began arriving as early as 7:30 a.m. for their 8 a.m. start time.

This year, Sault students are adjusting to newly consolidated buildings. For example, high school students will be sharing their space with middle school students in the newly renamed Sault Secondary School.

"We're going to have a chaotic first few days because we usually only bring in one new class and now we're bringing in four new classes," said Sault High Principal Jeanine Sherman. "It's not just new for the students but for the parents at drop-off. It's busier, but we'll learn the new routine and it'll get easier."
