CHAPEL HILL — In Bill Belichick’s debut with UNC football , a bad night got worse when quarterback Gio Lopez left the game with an injury late in the second half of the Tar Heels’ blowout loss to TCU .
Lopez exited with what UNC announced as a back injury, hobbling off the field after a scoop-and-score touchdown for the Horned Frogs before heading back to the locker room in the third quarter of the 48-14 loss at Kenan Stadium .
“Yeah, we’ll see how Gio is. They took him off (the field), took a look at him. Hopefully it’s not too bad, but we’ll see,” Belichick said during his postgame press conference.
It’s a short turnaround for UNC (1-0), which heads to Charlotte (0-1) on Saturday, Sept. 6 (7 p.m., ESPN+), for its first road game of the season. Will Lopez be healthy and, if so,
