CHICO, Calif. - Chico residents took to the water to partake in a Labor Day tradition – floating down the Sacramento River.

“We’re just looking forward to just having a good day out on the river. It's gonna be kinda hot, so we just kind of enjoy cooling off and being out on the water and just hanging out and seeing everybody else,” said Ryan Rogers, a participant in the float.

The Butte and Glenn County Sheriff's Departments put the annual holiday alcohol ban in place from the Highway 32 Bridge at Irvine Finch Boat Launch to the mouth of Big Chico Creek.

The ban aims to ensure safety, but it has left some with mixed feelings.
