Montgomery police have charged a man with capital murder in the shooting death of a 13-year-old in 2024.

Lakito Kemp, 48, is charged with capital murder, said Lt. Ernestina McGriff, spokeswoman for the Montgomery Police Department. Kemp was taken into custody on Aug. 31 and is in the Montgomery County Detention Facility, McGriff said. He is being held under no bond, jail records show.

At about 1:48 a.m. Dec. 19, 2024, police and fire medics went to the 100 block of West Fred D. Gray Ave. on a report of person shot. They found Shaquille Bradford, 13, of Montgomery, who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead, McGriff said.

Capital murder charges were filed because the case involves the death of a child under the age of 14, jail and court records show.
