YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) -- Reports said an inmate who was stabbed Sunday at the private prison on the East Side died in the hospital.

Chief of Detectives Capt. Jason Simon said the inmate at the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center had initially stabbed two other inmates, then was attacked by four inmates who, in turn, stabbed him.

That inmate died at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

A message has been sent to the operators of the prison, CoreCivic, seeking comment.

Reports said police were called about 6:25 p.m. to the prison for a report of a stabbing. Security told police that an inmate was let out of his cell on a top tier and stabbed two other inmates.
