President Trump’s Tuesday announcement that Space Command’s headquarters is moving to Alabama once again prompted the question: Are Space Command and Space Force the same thing?

The two are often confused and - incorrectly - used interchangeably.

But Space Command and Space Force are two different entities with separate missions.

Here’s how the Department of Defense describes it:

Space Command

Space Command: “Actively employs joint forces from the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Space Force to accomplish the command’s mission.”
