Dawesville local James Hay, 27, has been announced as one of six emerging innovation finalists for WA’s Innovators of the Year.

Mr Hay is the founder and inventor of Acculaser, an upcoming novel navigation system for underground drilling operations which simplifies complex drilling processes with precision laser technologies.

After working as an underground miner for six months, Mr Hay saw the potential to create a product which could improve the efficiency and sustainability of drilling but also, more importantly, the lives of those who worked in the field.

“It’s great to get recognition for what we’re doing but really, I just want to make a genuine impact,” he said.

Acculaser’s technology is currently in its final stages of testing ahead of a full-scale launch in January.
