Boston Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu has been on the injured list with a right calf strain for nearly two weeks.
Manager Alex Cora has given varying updates on the 2024 Gold Glover’s status. Cora first indicated that Abreu would likely be back with the team in late August, before saying his recovery has been slower than expected more recently.
Elemergente.com’s Marcos Grunfeld reported a mixed update on Abreu on Tuesday.
“Wilyer Abreu said he is feeling better, but he has not yet started running. He expects to begin this week and is waiting for the trainers to learn more about his progress,” Grunfeld wrote on X.
Amid his ongoing absence, the 26-year-old is still second on the team in home runs (22) and third in RBIs (69).
