ASHEVILLE – A West Asheville homeless shelter can continue operating after securing an Aug. 26 approval from City Council.
Dubbed Safe Shelter, it has housed people in the former educational building of Trinity United Methodist Church since October after a year of rotating locations.
Until now, it has operated under a temporary use permit. Council’s conditional zoning approval made nightly shelter a permanent use for the property — and expands its capacity from 20 beds to 35.
