BRISTOL, Tenn. — Bristol Mayor Dr. Mark Hutton announced Tuesday that he is resigning from the Bristol, Tennessee City Council to accept a permanent pastoral position, ending his three-year tenure in city government.

Hutton’s resignation is effective Sept. 2. Vice Mayor Vince Turner will assume the role of mayor until the council’s next reorganization meeting in January 2026.

Hutton was absent from last week's work session meeting, which was led by Turner.

Hutton was first appointed to City Council in March 2022 to fill a vacancy representing the city’s east district and was elected to the seat later that year. Before his time on City Council, he represented Bristol’s second district on the Sullivan County Commission from 2018 until 2022.
