BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. (WMC) - The district attorney for Haywood County says that a deputy who shot and wounded the passenger of a car evading law enforcement was justified in discharging his firearm and will not face charges.
DA Frederick Agee says that this decision comes after a review of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s findings on this shooting, which occurred on the night of October 19, 2024, in Brownsville.
TBI says a Haywood Co. deputy fired his weapon while responding to a wreck on Windrow Road, where a suspect crashed his vehicle while evading another deputy.
The suspect has since been identified as Xavier D. Evans.
DA Agee says Evans did not comply with law enforcement’s attempts to pull him over, risking the lives of residents, deputies, and his passenger.
