COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - All it took was slipping past an attempted arm tackle by UTSA gunner Alpha Khan, while moving away from a block set by teammate Jarred Kerr, for Texas A&M punt returner KC Concepcion to know he was off to the races.
“As soon as I got through the little gap, I knew it was over with,” Concepcion said, thinking back on the play Tuesday.
In the Aggies’ season-opener, the NC State transfer accomplished a feat that had not been witnessed by a Kyle Field crowd since 2021. Concepcion took UTSA punter Caile Hogan’s first-quarter punt back to the house on an 80-yard return, the first A&M punt return at home since Ainias Smith’s against South Carolina four seasons prior.
“It was amazing just watching KC on that punt,” A&M quarterback Marcel Reed said after the game.
