Late-season soybean disease management involves knowing when to say yes and when to say no. Understanding the growth stage of plants and the lifecycle of the various diseases is an important factor in disease management.
“Typically, what is observed in late summer is the above-ground foliar symptoms of the disease. Those symptoms do not always translate to yield losses,” says Dr. Horacio Lopez-Nicora, OSU Extension Soybean Pathologist and Nematologist. “For a foliar disease such as septoria brown spot, we always see it this time of year, but often it results in very little yield reduction unless we have an extremely susceptible cultivar.”
