The Colorado Springs man found guilty of vehicular homicide after running a red light early last year received the minimum sentence in the Department of Corrections on Tuesday .

Robert Pearson, 29, faced several charges related to the death of 66-year-old David Smith. The Jan. 15, 2024, crash happened at the intersection of Austin Bluffs Parkway and Meadow Lane, according to past Gazette coverage.

Pearson was charged with one count each of vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, careless driving resulting in death and failing to obey a traffic device (the red light).

Pearson went through a five-day jury trial in June in the 4th Judicial District before an El Paso County jury found him guilty on all charges.
