LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Omni Hotel received $139 million in local and state tax dollars for development of its glass high rise and the 1.25 acre lot next door. It wants the Odd Fellows building there gone.

"We taxpayers have a vested role in this building. We're paying for this, okay? Not Omni. Omni's not paying for this. It's us, the taxpayers," Steve Wiser said.

He's president of the Louisville Historical Society. Wiser has tried saving the structure, which was built in 1897, for over a decade now.

"Pickleball courts are not an acceptable trade off to remove this landmark," he said.
