THE NFL is making a major change to its schedule for the 2026 season.
After kicking off the NFL season with a Friday game in Week 1 for the last two seasons, that tradition will no longer continue.
According to Hans Schroeder, the NFL's Executive Vice President of Media Distribution, the Friday game will not continue into 2026.
The NFL was able to schedule a Week 1 Friday game this season and last due to Labor Day being early.
However, with the holiday being at a different time in 2026, the league legally cannot schedule a Friday game in the second week of September.
This is due to the 1961 Sports Broadcasting act.
That act prohibits Friday or Saturday NFL games being scheduled during the high school and college football seasons.
