ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Continuous turmoil at the Georgia-based Centers for Disease Control (CDC) led some Georgia lawmakers to meet with current and former top-level scientists.
The meeting comes after a shooting targeting the agency and a turnover in leadership. It included a roundtable discussion with former CDC employees — some high-ranking — as well as lawmakers whose districts encompass the sprawling Atlanta campus of the public health agency.
The CDC’s former director and longtime government scientist, Susan Monarez, was fired by the Trump administration. Her attorneys said she refused to “rubber stand unscientific, reckless directives and fire dedicated health experts.”
