NEW ORLEANS — The sheriff of Orleans Parish is not the city’s chief law enforcement officer, but she plays a major role in public safety.

The sheriff’s main job is operating a secure local jail, keeping prisoners safely inside. In the wake of recent breakouts, Sheriff Susan Hutson faces an uphill fight to keep her job.

Yet, the latest WWL Louisiana poll by Ron Faucheux shows half the city’s voters are undecided between the three main candidates.
