WASHINGTON PARISH, La. — New surveillance video shows two inmates scaling a barbed-wire fence during Sunday’s escape from the Washington Parish Jail.

The situation began Sunday afternoon around 4 p.m. Sheriff Jason Smith said Kaid Elliott and Corey Ard were in the jail’s yard with other inmates. When they were all called in, the two men hid behind a wall.

Smith said, per policy, an employee should have checked the yard at that point. Someone also should have counted the inmates as they came inside. Neither happened.

The two men climbed over the barbed wire fence surrounding the yard. Then, the security video shows them running to the outer fence, scaling it, and running away.
