LAKE POWELL, Ariz. — A Colorado man is attempting to become the first person to swim the length of Lake Powell.
Shane Schieffer set out on the water at 8:38 a.m. Tuesday morning, according to his Instagram account.
Schieffer is attempting to be the first person to swim all 140 miles of the lake's length, though how you define the length of that lake may be up for debate.
Lake Powell is formed by damming the Colorado River with the Glen Canyon Dam. So it's a slightly arbitrary decision where the lake begins and the river ends.
But what's not up for debate is the incredible length that Schieffer plans to swim.
He's starting at Hite Crossing, a bridge far into Utah, and will swim along the twisting canyons and tributaries to Glen Canyon Dam.
