TEXARKANA, Texas (KTAL/KMSS) – For students at Liberty-Eylau, Tuesday, September 2nd, was just a regular school day after a long Labor Day weekend. However, some may have noticed a new addition to their classroom walls that was not there last week.

That's because the district is following a new Texas law that officially went into effect September 1, requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in all classrooms.

"I think it's going to be a very positive aspect, maybe teach the kids to be a little kinder, but I don't just necessarily think them being up is going to take care of everything," said High School English Teacher Shannon Smith.

She said the new posters do not change the fact that it is educators who are ultimately responsible for guiding students.
