TAOS COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – One of the men accused of killing his former Army buddy and dismembering his remains will remain locked up until trial. Taos County deputies say Rainor Joiner and David DeGroat shot and killed their roommate, Matthew McLaughlin, near Tres Piedras.
Investigators found McLaughlin's remains in plastic bags scattered along Highway 64. On Monday, a judge granted prosecutors' request for pretrial detention in Joiner's case. Online court records show that DeGroat's detention hearing was continued to September 15.
