NAMPA, Idaho — From pumpkins to sweet corn, all of it makes its way to the farm stand at Wissel Farms.

But behind those colorful displays, there's a bigger story. Small farms are fighting to stay in business, and it's the next generation that may be the key to keeping farms alive.

At first glance, it looks like any other family farm.

Pumpkins are turning orange, sweet corn is ready for the stand, and it's the rhythm of farming that's grown fresh food for more than 100 years.

But stay awhile and you'll notice something different.

The newest farmhand doesn't just carry pliers; she also carries a phone.

Morgan Escolme Wissel is now the farm manager.
