SAWA, JAPAN — In the midst of a trade mission in Asia, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced a $95 million investment from Tokyo-based automotive supplier Astemo Ltd. to create a regional headquarters in Wixom.
The move will support at at least 200 “good-paying, local jobs,” and retain an additional 175, the governor said.
Astemo chose Wixom for its expansion over competing sites in Ohio, according to company officials. Wixom is located just 10 miles east of the company’s existing North American headquarters in Farmington Hills.
“Today’s investment is further proof that Michigan is open for business and on the move,” Whitmer said in a statement. “I’ll work with anyone to strengthen Michigan’s auto ecosystem and bring jobs and investments back home to our state.
