A “Saturday Night Live” newbie has a history with Shane Gillis, who got fired from the sketch comedy show in 2019.

Veronika Slowikowska is one of five new additions to the “SNL” cast for the upcoming 51st season. She plays Kelly in the Netflix series “Tires,” which Gillis created and starred in. The comedy was renewed for a third season in July.

Gillis has been back to host “SNL” twice (in February 2024 and March 2025) since he was hired as a cast member and fired five days later in 2019. The decision was made after podcast clips resurfaced of Gillis using ethnic slurs and making racist remarks about Chinese people.

In addition to her role on “Tires,” Slowikowska, 29, is known for “What We Do In The Shadows” (Shanice), “EXmas” (Mindy Stoop), and “Davey & Jonesie’s Locker” (Davey). Sh
