MCDONOUGH — In the foyer of the home they built in 2009, David Tew stands with his wife, Mary Anne. Their loved ones, caregivers, hospice workers and staff from Sacred Journey had gathered in the dining room to help them celebrate their wedding anniversary. It was a Saturday — the same day of the week on which David and Mary Anne were married 70 years ago.

“I made vows, you made vows 70 years ago,” David Tew said. “I promised to love you and I still do and will continue to do so.”

From neighbors to life partners

The couple grew up on neighboring farms in Clio, Ala. — not far from Eufaula. After growing up attending the same church and public schools, they parted ways to go to college. They never went far with David graduating from what is now Samford University and Mary Anne attending T
