EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — If walls could talk, the old Central High School gym in downtown Evansville would have many stories to tell, from buzzer-beaters to community pick-up games. Now, the historic space is seeking a new purpose.
The gym, once home to Evansville’s Central High School basketball team, has long been a symbol of the city’s rich sports history. Over the years, the building also served as a community hub where children learned to swim and residents stayed active. Today, however, it sits largely unused, waiting for its future to be determined.
For many Evansville residents, the gym represents more than just bricks and mortar. It is a shared piece of local history and memory.
