Wetherspoon announce major food and drink price change

Wetherspoon has confirmed it will cut the price of all of its food and drink this month. The pub chain giant said it will give customers a 7.5% discount to customers for one day only.

The chain is introducing the discount on Thursday, September 18, which also marks Tax Equality Day. It comes after Wetherspoon's founder Sir Tim Martin carries on his campaign of lowering VAT for many parts of the service industry.

The pub chain highlighted that all food and drinks in pubs are subjected to 20% VAT while supermarkets do not pay any VAT on food, which it claimed allows supermarkets to offer alcohol at a discounted rate due to savings.
