A man has dodged jail after cannabis worth £41,000 was recovered from a Coatbridge flat in a police raid.

Eduard Rapi, 46, admitted producing the drug at his home in the Lanarkshire town's Hawthorn Drive on October 23 last year. He also admitted interfering with the electricity meter to provide heat and light for the illegal cultivation .

Airdrie Sheriff Court heard officers arrived with a search warrant and found Rapi and two other individuals in the flat. They then found plants and dried material in the loft.

Flora McCamley, prosecuting, told the court: "They found 30 cannabis plants growing in the loft along with 6.3 kilos of plant material that was drying out.

"The plants were valued at between £6000 and £18,000 while the dried cannabis had a maximum value of £23,000."
