A retired nurse tragically passed away after suffering shock from bee stings whilst gathering honey.
Kathleen Devine, aged in her seventies, experienced a fatal allergic reaction to the stings during an incident in rural Co. Mayo on Monday evening.
Mrs Devine and her husband Des, both passionate beekeepers, were assisting friends with harvesting honey from their hives near their home in Ballycastle, approximately 25kms north of Ballina , when the tragedy unfolded. Local sources say that Mrs Devine was stung by as few as two bees.
Following multiple stings, she became critically unwell and the Rescue 118 Irish Coast Guard helicopter was dispatched to the location to provide assistance, reports Wales Online .
She received immediate care at the scene before being airlift
