HMRC is set to launch "spot checks" on UK households with “fishing expeditions”. The Labour Party government tax arm is set to crackdown on UK households as a personal finance expert speaks out over what lies ahead.

Speaking about HMRC "targeting" some, LandlordZONE's Tom Entwhistle said: "These so-called compliance checks - sometimes referred to as “fishing expeditions” - are happening more often, and they can arrive completely out of the blue.

"You don’t need to have done anything wrong to get one. But if your books aren’t in order, or if you’ve even made innocent mistakes, the experience can quickly become stressful and expensive."
